LA aaroe
Makers of movies, TV shows and commercials love South Pasadena, and not just for the obvious reasons. There’s no question the city is charming, highly photogenic, and rich with picturesque shops and beautiful residential streets. But South Pas has an edge most other LA locations can’t compete with: entire areas of the town have no palm trees. When you want a local place to stand in for a Midwest or Northeast location, that’s priceless. In this issue, you’ll find out more about South Pas — and see the wonderful 1909 Craftsman we’ve listed just moments from the shops and restaurants of the Mission District. Enjoy!

In Place: South Pasadena

The first thing you need to know about South Pasadena is: it’s not Pasadena. Even before it incorporated as LA’s sixth municipality in 1888, people who lived in the southern sector of Pasadena considered themselves South Pasadenans. Small, proud and independent, the community has worked for nearly 130 years to preserve its distinctive status.
Located on a natural fording place along the Arroyo Seco, the site of South Pasadena has been a hub since aboriginal times. Today, it’s home to some of the oldest and most historic sites in the San Gabriel Valley. more »

It’s one of the oldest, largest and most successful house and garden tours in the country — and this year, it will spotlight a 1916 English Tudor Revival home designed by the legendary Marston & Van Pelt. It’s always a special thrill to represent past Showcase homes for sale, and right now we have this two-time Showcase house listed. more »

This year the LA Conservancy’s annual film series in Downtown’s grandest theaters is showcasing a wide range of classic, foreign, and Oscar winning films. (They’ve even added two screenings at the fabulous 1931 Warner Grand in San Pedro!) Proceeds help maintain and preserve LA landmarks, so we love it even more. more »
